The growth rate of clean energy power generation is expected to continue to decline Recent data released by the China Electricity Regulatory Commission on the 24th revealed that in November, clean energy power generation reached 74.8 billion kWh, marking a 20.3% year-on-year increase. However, this growth rate was 28.1 percentage points lower than the one recorded in October, signaling a noticeable slowdown. According to the figures, hydropower saw a 19.4% rise in November, down 33.5 percentage points from the previous month. Nuclear power grew by 22.9%, a decrease of 4.8 percentage points compared to October. Meanwhile, wind power surged by 54.2%, an increase of 14.4 percentage points over the previous month's performance. Lin Boqiang, director of the China Energy Economic Research Center at Xiamen University, explained that the decline in the growth rate of clean energy power generation in November was largely due to seasonal factors. Winter typically brings reduced rainfall, which significantly impacts hydropower output. On the other hand, winter often brings stronger winds, boosting wind power generation. However, since hydropower still constitutes the largest share of clean energy in China, the drop in its growth has dragged down the overall growth rate of clean energy. With colder weather setting in, experts predict that the growth rate of clean energy power generation will continue to slow down in the coming months. This trend highlights the challenges faced by renewable energy sources in maintaining consistent growth amid fluctuating natural conditions. As the country continues to rely heavily on hydropower, managing these seasonal variations will be crucial for sustaining the momentum of clean energy development.
