On December 24th, the Liaoning Smart Grid Dispatching Support System underwent a significant upgrade by shifting its online safety and stability analysis data source from local grid data to the entire Northeast Power Grid network data. This change enables real-time monitoring of stability issues caused by faults outside the Liaoning region, allowing for early warnings and detailed analysis of potential disruptions. Liaoning Power Grid is a typical receiving-end grid, highly sensitive to external conditions. According to historical data, in 2011, the province received a net electricity inflow of 45.5 billion kWh through inter-provincial transmission lines, accounting for nearly 25% of total consumption. During the 12th Five-Year Plan period, as power grid infrastructure expanded rapidly, the grid structure evolved quickly, leading to changing weak points and emerging stability challenges. Increased inter-provincial power exchanges have also introduced more complex fault patterns and tighter system interconnections. A senior official from the Liaoning Electric Power Dispatch and Control Center emphasized that out-of-zone faults can significantly impact local grid performance. To address this, Liaoning Power Corporation developed an advanced online safety and stability analysis system. It integrates static, transient, dynamic, voltage, frequency, and small-disturbance stability analyses, along with short-circuit current calculations. This comprehensive system provides real-time early warning and coordinated preventive control, enabling multi-dimensional and multi-angle assessments of grid vulnerabilities. After transitioning the data source to the full Northeast Power Grid network, the Liaoning Dispatch Center overcame previous limitations where external equipment couldn't be included in online stability analysis. This enhancement improved data preparation accuracy and strengthened decision-making support for real-time stability assessments. The new system allows for timely safety alerts, boosts operational efficiency, and helps prevent or minimize potential accidents, ensuring a more reliable and secure power supply.
