In recent years, the rapid development of the hardware processing industry has brought about significant changes, with fierce competition being one of the most obvious outcomes. As unit prices drop, companies are under pressure to cut costs. Cleaning, once overlooked, has now become a key factor in maintaining competitiveness. The current trend is to use water-based cleaning agents, which significantly reduce the cost of solvent-based cleaning. But can we still further lower the cleaning cost after switching to water-based solutions? Is there a better way? Evergreen Peak says yes!
Evergreen's recommended method isn't just simple cleaning and degreasing — it's oil drainage!
Most commercial cleaning agents on the market work by dissolving oils and dirt into solvents or water. For solvent-based cleaners, their effectiveness typically drops when the oil content reaches around 13–15%, leading operators to consider the process a failure. Water-based cleaners rely more on their active ingredients, and high-temperature processes tend to last longer but require higher standards.
So what exactly is oil drainage? According to Evergreen Peak, it involves separating the oil from the product surface without dissolving it. This allows the oil to float or sink within the cleaning solution, making it easier to remove through physical separation. This method greatly extends the life of the cleaning agent.
For example, a hardware stamping factory in Longhua had serious oil stains on its products. To cut costs, they tried using a water-based cleaner, but because the oil was heavy, the cleaner failed quickly — sometimes even daily. This led to high overall costs. The company then reached out to Evergreen for help. After visiting the site, Evergreen’s team first analyzed the situation.
Product material: aluminum
Contamination: mainly stamping oil
Original cleaning process: ultrasonic water-based pre-washing – ultrasonic water-based final washing – multiple water rinses – drying.
Evergreen introduced the concept of oil drainage to the company and conducted tests on some uncleaned parts. The next day, our customer service team brought samples of the cleaning agent to the site for small-batch testing. The new process was: ultrasonic water-based oil drainage – ultrasonic water-based degreasing – water rinse – water rinse – water rinse – drying. At the first stage, an oil-draining metal cleaner specially formulated for the company’s stamping oil was used. Within one minute, a large amount of oil detached from the workpiece and floated to the surface. The operator then removed the oil manually before moving the part to the second station. There, a water-based degreasing cleaner was used for another minute, repeated three times. After rinsing and drying, the final product met the customer’s cleanliness requirements. The cleaning agent lasted twice as long as before, and the cost was reduced by half.
Evergreen Peak reminds users that oil-draining cleaners are not suitable for all types of oil. Each type of contamination needs specific analysis and tailored formulation. Always consult a professional cleaning agent manufacturer for the best results.
