"How to Choose Stair Treads
Stair treads, also known as steel ladder treads or ladder grating treads, are specialized grating panels designed for use on steel ladders. Depending on how they're installed, there are typically two main types: those with welded joints and those secured with bolts. These treads are primarily intended for use on steel ladders and are often referred to as stair treads.
(1) Based on installation methods, stair treads can be either welded or bolted. Welded treads are standard steel grating pieces that are permanently attached. Bolted treads require additional side plates—typically 65x5mm flat steel strips—to be affixed to the grating.
(2) Depending on whether they include anti-slip features, stair treads can be classified as those with front guard plates (either patterned or grooved) and those without. For safety reasons, we highly recommend using treads with front guard plates. There are four primary types: T1, T2, T3, and T4.
The T1 tread is the most basic and cost-effective option. It consists of load-bearing flat steel and crossbars spaced at specific intervals. Typically, these treads are welded onto the grating and then hot-dipped galvanized. Its affordability makes it a popular choice among customers.
The T2 tread improves upon the T1 by incorporating side plates that are bolted on both ends. This design allows for easier installation and is commonly used for steel ladders.
The T3 tread builds on the T1 model by adding a protective front guard along the flat steel. The anti-slip front guard is usually made from patterned steel, enhancing the tread's slip resistance.
The T4 tread combines the best features of the T2 and T3 models. It offers both an anti-slip front guard and pre-installed slots for installation. Welded treads are permanently fixed to the ladder beams and don't require additional side plates. While this makes them more economical and durable, they can be challenging to remove. Bolted treads, on the other hand, need reinforced side plates with holes for direct bolt fixation. They are reusable and offer greater flexibility. Customers can tailor their choices to meet specific needs, selecting suitable grating types to create custom-sized treads that fit perfectly with their staircases.
When choosing stair treads, consider factors like budget, ease of installation, and safety requirements. Whether you're looking for something simple and affordable or a more robust and versatile solution, there’s a tread type to suit every project."
