In a recent report, Master Wang from Zibo Jingchuan revealed that he had been working in the mining industry for over a decade without ever being informed of his serious health condition. He was diagnosed with pneumoconiosis, a lung disease caused by long-term exposure to dust, but the medical records showed that he had already been diagnosed back in 2006—years before he became aware of it. This alarming situation has raised serious concerns about how mining companies handled workers' health information.
Master Wang, now 48, worked at multiple mining companies in Longchuan and Suichuan. Despite undergoing periodic medical check-ups, he was never shown his physical examination reports. According to him, the results were usually communicated only to company officials, leaving workers in the dark about their own health status. The problem is that the first two companies he worked for have since gone bankrupt, making it impossible to contact those responsible. As a result, Master Wang’s condition has worsened significantly, and he is now unable to work.
He approached the current company where he is employed to seek compensation, but they refused, arguing that the diagnosis occurred too long ago and was not related to his current job. This left Master Wang in a difficult position, as the previous companies are no longer available to take responsibility.
According to lawyer Xiang Qijian, all three companies should bear some degree of responsibility. The second company, in particular, concealed Master Wang's medical records, which directly delayed his treatment and led to a worsening of his condition. The first company, despite not diagnosing him during his time there, also shares some blame due to his prolonged exposure to hazardous conditions. The third company failed to conduct proper health checks before hiring him, allowing him to continue working while already suffering from pneumoconiosis.
The legal team is now working to help Master Wang fight for his rights through the courts. They also advise miners to be more vigilant about their health. If a company does not provide medical reports, workers can request them directly from the hospital. Awareness and proactive action are essential in protecting one's health and legal rights in such cases.
This case highlights the urgent need for better transparency and accountability in the mining industry, especially regarding occupational health and safety. Workers should not be left in the dark about their medical conditions or denied access to critical health information.
