Teach you to know the various kinds of safety shoes

Safety shoes are commonly made from genuine leather, recycled leather, and artificial leather. Genuine leather is derived from the hides of animals such as cows, sheep, pigs, horses, and deer, and is processed in tanneries to create materials with varying textures, colors, and patterns. Recycled leather is produced by breaking down various animal skins and leather scraps into fibers and reconstituting them using chemical binders. Artificial leather, also known as faux leather or synthetic leather, is typically made on a fabric or non-woven base and coated with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or polyurethane (PU) to mimic the look and feel of real leather.

Genuine Leather

Genuine leather comes from the outer layer of animal hides, which includes natural imperfections like scars, pores, and marks. It is divided into two layers: the top grain layer and the lower split layer. The top grain layer is the most valuable, as it retains the natural texture and durability of the hide. Cowhide, sheepskin, and pigskin are the three primary types used in leather production. Each has unique characteristics; for example, cowhide is strong and durable, while sheepskin is soft and flexible. Buffalo leather has coarser pores, whereas yellow leather has finer and denser ones. Other exotic leathers, such as ostrich, crocodile, and snake skin, are also used but are less common due to their distinct appearance and high cost.

Recycled Leather

Recycled leather is made by processing leather scraps and waste materials with adhesives and chemicals. This material is often used in budget-friendly products like wallets, bags, and shoe uppers. While it offers a neat edge and high utilization rate, it tends to be thicker and less durable than genuine leather. It is ideal for items that do not require high strength or long-term wear. Its fibrous structure is uniform, and you can often spot the presence of synthetic binders when looking at the cross-section.

Artificial Leather

Artificial leather, or imitation leather, is a man-made material designed to resemble real leather. It is typically made by coating a fabric or non-woven base with PVC or PU. It offers a wide range of colors, textures, and finishes, making it a popular choice for fashion and home décor. While it is more affordable and easier to maintain, it lacks the breathability, flexibility, and natural feel of genuine leather. When cut open, you can see the layered structure, including bubbles, fabric backing, and synthetic fibers. It is widely used in mass-produced leather goods and is especially common in budget-friendly products.
