Development and Prospect of Automatic Lathes in China

The automatic lathe is an automatic machining lathe controlled by a cam. It has only been a few decades since the introduction of the Chinese mainland market from Switzerland, Japan and Taiwan. From the few hundred units that were originally in the market, the market has experienced many twists and turns, and now hundreds of thousands of units have gradually integrated into the machining industry.

In the 1960s and 1970s, most of the machines used in the machining industry were the core-type automatic lathes produced by Ningjiang Machine Tool Plant. In the early 1990s, Taiwan's automatic lathe manufacturing industry began to target the mainland market. Automatic lathe manufacturers such as Fengfeng, Mingyang, Qiagen, Changyong, Suichang, Qicun and Wangzhu introduced the automatic lathes. Taiwan's automatic lathes have moved to the mainland and have dominated the mainland.

The earliest use of Taiwan's automatic lathes is in the Pearl River Delta region of China. In the 1980s, Guangdong was at the forefront of reform and opening up. The processing of spare parts in electronics, computers, and small household appliances was very large. There were also many enterprises that machined small parts and precision parts in the Pearl River Delta. The introduction of Taiwan's automatic lathes in batches has formed the development of the automatic lathe processing industry in the Pearl River Delta.

At the end of the last century, Taiwan's automatic lathe manufacturing industry developed rapidly. Due to certain restrictions, the cost of Taiwan's automatic lathes entering the mainland was high, which also restricted the sales of Taiwan's automatic lathes in the mainland. Some manufacturers in Taiwan have moved companies into the mainland. Manufacturers such as Qifeng and Mingyang took the lead in investing in factories in the mainland to speed up the pace of using automatic lathes in the mainland. Later, some other Taiwanese companies gradually established a manufacturing base for automatic lathes in the mainland. Some machine tool manufacturing companies in the mainland are also actively copying Taiwanese machines and forming a group of enterprises that manufacture automatic lathes. At present, in addition to Taiwan's automatic lathes, there are many automatic lathe manufacturers in Taiwan that are wholly-owned or joint ventures in the mainland. Together with the manufacturers that use wholly-owned parts in mainland China, the annual output of automatic lathes is nearly 5,000. The output can be seen as a very large number of processing companies using automatic lathes.

However, the development of automatic lathes is not balanced. In many parts of southern Guangdong, as early as the 20th century, the automatic lathes were widely used. In the Yangtze River Delta, there were not many mechanical processing enterprises using machine tools in addition to Ningjiang. In my inland areas, there are fewer companies that use automatic knife lathes. At the end of the twentieth century, the automatic lathe processing enterprises in the Pearl River Delta began to upgrade the automatic lathes. At this time, the processing enterprises in the Yangtze River Delta began to use the automatic lathes. In recent years, with the increase in the number of automatic lathe manufacturing enterprises, the number of automatic lathes in the Yangtze River Delta has increased year by year. In Suzhou, Jiangsu alone, there are thousands of owners who use automatic lathes. There are many Taiwanese businessmen, Korean businessmen, and Japanese businessmen in Suzhou. The processing accessories for electronics, computers, mobile phones, etc. are very large, and there are many processing owners that are derived. As far as we are concerned, we have a presence in Suzhou. One hundred automatic lathe customers.

The automatic lathe has the characteristics of stable processing precision, high degree of automation and high processing efficiency. Although it has a special processing position in machining, it requires a process to truly understand it. This is because the automatic lathe is different from the CNC lathe. It uses the cam as the automatic machining source, and it requires a certain experience of the cam design and commissioning personnel to better operate and use the automatic lathe, which also limits the development of the automatic lathe. Take our Changzhou area, although Ningjiang has more than a thousand machines, and most of them are two mobile phones, but the new machine is only five or six hundred, and the average service life is only about three or five years. This is mainly because many mechanical processing owners do not have enough knowledge of such automatic lathes, plus there is no automatic lathe operator, so they can not talk about using it. At present, there are still many machining companies still using backward manual work, that is, using a large amount of labor, using manual instrument lathes to process these parts. This affects the overall efficiency of the company, both in terms of labor intensity, processing accuracy, and processing efficiency.

With the development of China's economy, computer peripherals, mobile phones, meters, watches, automobiles, motorcycles, bicycles, glasses, stationery, lamps, hardware, sanitary ware, electronic parts, connectors, electromechanical and other industries are also rapidly developing, and their spare parts. The demand for more and more, the processing of small parts is also growing, and many companies that use instrument lathe processing are gradually upgrading. From the entire machining industry, the use of automatic lathes to process small batch parts has an important role in the development of machining. Therefore, the prospects for the development of automatic lathes are still very broad.
