DuPont will stop production of its Kevlar Kevlar fiber at the Cooper River plant in southern California, and this will be transferred to the Spruance plant in Richmond, Virginia. DuPont built the Kevlar Kevlar factory of Cooper River near Charleston, Southern California in 2011. At that time, DuPont stated that the production capacity of Kevlar Aramid fiber in the world should be increased by 25% first, and plans to continue with technology. Progress will further increase production capacity to 140% in the following two years. Dan Turner, a spokesman for DuPont, said that the decision was based on market conditions and was not finalized until the construction of the Cooper River plant was carried out in an orderly manner. The current status quo is that many new suppliers have entered the market, resulting in excess capacity. In the current overcapacity environment, the Cooper River plant's production capacity increase is less than 10% of current production, and these products can be completely completed by other DuPont factories. The first choice is the Richmond factory in Virginia. At present, the Cooper River factory employs 113 people and DuPont says they will be eligible to obtain positions at other DuPont factories, including the Richmond factory. DuPont will work with these employees to ensure that they get a job, whether or not they continue to serve at DuPont. At the same time, the Cooper River plant will retain the function of the Hytrel production department. Dupont plans to officially cease production of Kevlar Kevlar Kevlar in June 2017. The equipment will be dismantled at the end of July. The company plans to ship the extra aramid fiber production facility to other aramid production plants to increase equipment utilization.
