Da Vinci home treats leukemia employees indifferently

In a recent incident that has sparked public concern, a 22-year-old employee of Da Vinci Home, Tan Ruxian, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (M5). The case has raised questions about the company's working environment and its response to the health crisis. According to Tan’s father, the company has been indifferent and even obstructed efforts to test the air quality in the showroom where his daughter worked. The story began when Tan Ruxian, who had worked at Da Vinci for just seven months, started experiencing severe fatigue and other symptoms. After a series of medical tests, she was diagnosed with leukemia. Her family believes her illness is linked to the exposure to harmful chemicals like benzene and formaldehyde, which were present in the newly renovated exhibition hall where she worked. Tan’s father, desperate to raise funds for his daughter’s bone marrow transplant, said he had only managed to collect half of the required 350,000 yuan. He criticized Da Vinci for not providing adequate support, stating that while the company could sell hangers for 600,000 yuan, it refused to contribute even a fraction toward saving a life. Da Vinci has denied any connection between the employee’s illness and the workplace, claiming that the air quality tests conducted at their Guangzhou flagship store showed no violations. However, during a recent attempt by Tan’s father and lawyers to conduct an independent inspection, the company staff refused access to power outlets and delayed the process for over an hour. Eventually, the test was completed quickly, but the results were inconclusive due to the lack of proper conditions. The company has donated 30,000 yuan to the family, but according to Tan’s lawyer, Xiao Wusong, this gesture is insufficient. He emphasized that the real issue lies in the company’s refusal to cooperate with official investigations into potential occupational hazards. Despite the challenges, Tan Ruxian remains strong and positive. She continues to study at night school and refuses to give up on her education, even as she undergoes treatment. Her boyfriend and family remain supportive, showing resilience in the face of adversity. This incident has once again brought attention to the working conditions in high-end retail environments, especially those involving furniture and decoration. As the legal battle continues, many are hoping for transparency and accountability from Da Vinci. For now, the focus remains on saving Tan Ruxian’s life, with her family and supporters urging the company to take responsibility for its actions.
