On June 13, the “Safety Shoes Research Center†was officially launched in Beijing. This joint initiative between the China Leather and Footwear Industry Research Institute and Shenxin Polyurethane Products Co., Ltd. aims to enhance safety standards for workers across various industries by developing specialized footwear tailored to different working environments.
According to Yang Chengjie, director of the China Leather and Footwear Industry Research Institute, there is a significant gap in foot protection awareness in China. Many workers in hazardous environments, such as construction sites and coal mines, still wear inappropriate footwear like slippers. "We need to raise awareness and provide suitable safety shoes that meet the specific needs of different jobs," he emphasized during the conference.
China, as a major manufacturing nation, has a growing demand for safety footwear. However, despite domestic production capabilities, the industry still faces challenges such as limited variety, low technological innovation, and inconsistent quality. "Many products lack proper documentation and often enter the market without meeting required standards," Yang noted. As consumer expectations rise, so do demands for better quality, style, and safety features in workwear.
Huang Hanxiang, chairman of Singapore Zhiying Group, highlighted that in many developed countries, the safety footwear industry is well-regulated and supported by strong policies and technological advancements. He also mentioned that global leader NITTI has successfully expanded into over 100 countries but has not yet fully captured the Chinese market. "We are now focusing more on China and plan to introduce products that better suit local preferences," Huang said.
The new Emperor Safety Shoes, produced by the Singapore Zhiying Group, incorporate advanced "IPT integrated guarding technology" and are designed with input from renowned Italian designer Franco Ross. The company emphasizes not only safety but also comfort and environmental sustainability in its product development.
Through collaboration with research institutions and enterprises, the newly established Safety Shoes Research Center aims to bridge the gap between academic research and practical application. This partnership will help drive innovation, improve product quality, and promote the integration of education, research, and industry. Ultimately, it seeks to boost the entire safety footwear sector and ensure that safety solutions benefit society more effectively.
