In a significant breakthrough, Zhongdian Photovoltaic has achieved an impressive 20.3% conversion efficiency for its high-performance monocrystalline silicon cells. This milestone was confirmed by the Fraunhofer ISE in Germany, marking a major step forward in solar technology. The cell combines CLP's proprietary WARATAH and QSAR technologies, along with an innovative battery structure design. What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that it uses standard solar-grade silicon wafers and traditional screen printing techniques, enabling high efficiency, stability, and power output without relying on premium materials.
This advancement not only meets industry standards but also offers cost savings and space optimization, making it ideal for applications like building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV). As part of China Light & Power PV Co., Ltd.'s 863 National High-Tech Research and Development Program, key research and demonstration lines are already under development. The goal is to achieve mass production of low-cost crystalline silicon cells with over 20% efficiency by the end of 2014. This will significantly reduce the cost of solar power generation and enhance the competitiveness of photovoltaics against conventional thermal energy.
Looking ahead, the company is preparing for large-scale production of these high-efficiency cells. A 70MW battery production line and a 15MW component line have been established in their new R&D facility, with testing underway and full production expected by the end of 2013. Additionally, the Zhongdian R&D Center has developed a range of high-efficiency products, including dual-sided batteries with positive efficiency exceeding 20%, and dual-sided integrated circuits reaching up to 24%, with potential to go as high as 27% depending on application environments.
Customized solutions such as all-black components and high-efficiency double-glass modules are also being offered.
