Ningxia used mulberry as a protein supplement

On June 1st and 4th, 2013, the director of the Japan International Good Neighbor Association, Hachioji, visited Ningxia at the invitation of the Ningxia Foreign Science and Technology Exchange Center. The visit included a group of ten individuals who were involved in assessing the "Ningxia Mulberry Cultivation and Feed for the Popularization and Promotion of Herbivorous Livestock" project. During their trip, the Sino-Japanese technical cooperation team conducted on-site inspections at several key locations, including Yinchuan Yilin Environmental Construction Co., Ltd., Wuzhonghongsibao Tianyuan Farm, Lingwu Green Source Linmu Professional Cooperative, and Qingtongxia Maofeng Agriculture, Forestry and Animal Husbandry Technology Development Cooperative. On June 4th, the project team held a special symposium where Chinese and Japanese experts reviewed the progress made over the past three years. They concluded that the project had successfully met its objectives through the joint efforts of all participating units. This collaboration was supported by both the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), with funding provided in the amount of 50 million yen. Additionally, the project was included in the regional science and technology plan, receiving an investment of 100,000 yuan. Since the project's initiation in July 2010, experts from both countries have been actively engaged in mulberry cultivation, feed development, and grassland livestock production. Over 50 technical and academic sessions were organized, along with on-site guidance, which helped train more than 1,500 technicians. A total of 12 participants were sent to Japan for training, while over 50 Japanese experts visited Ningxia to provide guidance. To date, the project has established four mulberry feed cultivation and production demonstration bases and one mulberry granule production line. Four mulberry demonstration parks have also been constructed, covering a total area of over 1,200 mu. The team developed four sets of specialized mulberry feed formulas and feeding processes, resulting in three product series. Two local standards for mulberry feed processing and modulation technology, as well as two enterprise standards, were drafted. One patent application was submitted, and five research papers were published. Chinese and Japanese experts have conducted extensive research on mulberry planting, high-quality feed development, and the impact of mulberry feed on the quality of herbivorous livestock meat. Their work has led to the creation of a new high-quality protein feed that improves feed structure and reduces farming costs. The role of mulberry as a protein supplement in animal breeding has been widely recognized by farmers and local agricultural authorities, showing great potential for future expansion and adoption.
