When it comes to home decoration, even the smallest details can have a big impact on the final result. Here are some lessons learned from our recent living room renovation that might help you avoid similar mistakes.

1. No Spare Space for the Door Size – When we installed the two doors in the living room, we only considered the thickness of the floor, but forgot about the floor mat. As a result, there was almost no extra space after the flooring was done. We had planned to place a nice floor mat at the entrance, but now it's impossible.
Remedy: Always take into account the thickness of the floor, tiles, and mats when installing doors. It’s better to leave a little extra space than regret later.

2. Wall Sockets Not Reserved for TV – During the TV background wall decoration, we focused too much on aesthetics and neglected practical needs. We didn’t leave a wall outlet for the TV, so we had to place the LCD TV on a cabinet. It felt awkward, and if we wanted to hang it, we’d have to run wires openly, which looked unattractive.
Remedy: If you're using an LCD TV, make sure to install a wall outlet. Even if the TV is on a cabinet, the outlet can be hidden without affecting the look.

3. Small Spacing for Background Painting – We bought a 0.6m x 0.6m painting and hung four pieces together with 0.4m spacing between them. The total length was 3.6m, which looked great at first. But when we placed a 4.2m long sofa, the painting seemed too small. If the spacing were larger, it would have looked more balanced.
Remedy: Before hanging any artwork, measure the sofa and living room length. Consider these factors before choosing the size of your paintings. Re-doing this would leave nail holes on the wall.

4. Not Considering the Chandelier in the Ceiling – When we decorated the ceiling, we didn’t think much about the chandelier. The woodworkers completed the job without proper communication. As a result, the crystal chandelier we bought couldn’t be installed. The keel wasn’t strong enough to support its weight.
Remedy: If you plan to install a chandelier, make sure to participate in the ceiling structure design. Woodworkers may not know future lighting plans, so improper construction could cause problems later.

These experiences taught us that planning ahead and paying attention to detail are crucial in home decoration. Whether it's the door size, wall sockets, artwork placement, or ceiling structure, every element plays a role in the overall outcome. By learning from others' mistakes, we can avoid similar regrets in our own projects.
