The qualification test is a comprehensive evaluation conducted on newly developed fasteners to ensure their design and manufacturing processes fully comply with the requirements set by relevant product standards. This test is typically carried out by the supplier, and the results must be approved by an authorized appraisal agency to confirm whether the batch can proceed to mass production. As a result, all criteria outlined in the standard must be thoroughly tested. The qualification test should be performed before the fastener enters formal production. If there are any changes in the material, structural dimensions, main production processes, or if production resumes after a prolonged stoppage, the test must be repeated. During the qualification test, samples are randomly selected from the trial production batch, and the number of samples is usually specified by the applicable standard. Since the qualification test is not tied to a specific production batch and is not used to assess the eligibility of individual lots, it does not involve acceptance or rejection decisions for a given batch. Quality consistency inspection, also known as settlement inspection or factory inspection, aims to use cost-effective and practical methods that reflect real-world usage conditions. This process involves randomly sampling fasteners to verify they meet the required product standards, serving as a basis for batch acceptance. In general, the scope of quality consistency inspection is narrower than that of the qualification test. However, for fasteners with fewer test items and simpler procedures, the two inspections may overlap. In such cases, a quality consistency test can replace the qualification test. This inspection is carried out by the manufacturer, who is ultimately responsible for the product’s quality. Even if certain standards only require qualification testing and not quality consistency testing, manufacturers must still ensure compliance with those requirements.
