Fan bearings are critical components in industrial fans, and their performance directly affects the efficiency and lifespan of the entire system. However, issues such as high temperature, excessive vibration, and abnormal noise often occur due to improper installation or maintenance. This article provides a detailed analysis of the causes and troubleshooting methods for fan bearing problems.
One common cause of bearing failure is incorrect installation, particularly when the fixed sleeves on both sides of the bearing seat are not properly aligned. During testing, it was observed that the bearing experienced high temperatures from the start, with significant vibration levels. Upon inspection, it was found that one of the rolling elements was positioned in a specific orientation, causing uneven contact. Additionally, there were signs of rolling in the non-load zone, indicating an issue with the internal clearance.
The internal clearance of the bearing was only 0.04mm, but the transverse movement reached 0.08mm, which is beyond acceptable limits. This discrepancy can be attributed to a large span between the left and right bearings or misalignment during installation. Large fans typically use spherical roller bearings that allow for some adjustment, but if the internal clearance is too small, the bearing's self-centering capability is compromised, leading to increased vibration.
Another factor contributing to high operating temperatures is the tightness of the fit between the shaft and the inner ring. When this clearance is too small, it restricts the movement of the rolling elements, increasing friction and heat generation. In contrast, if the fit is too loose, the bearing may become unstable, leading to premature wear or even burning.
To resolve these issues, the first step is to loosen the tightening sleeve and adjust the fit between the shaft and the inner ring. After replacing the bearing and ensuring a proper clearance of 0.10mm, the fan was restarted, and both the vibration levels and operating temperature returned to normal. This highlights the importance of proper installation and regular maintenance in preventing bearing failures.
In summary, maintaining the correct internal clearance and ensuring proper alignment during installation are key to avoiding bearing-related problems. Regular inspections and adjustments can significantly extend the life of the fan and reduce downtime.
